The claim that all shelter dogs have behavioral issues or are surrendered due to behavior problems is patently false. You can’t possibly believe that. We get dogs surrendered due to a HUGE variety of reasons that have nothing to do with the animal at all - the owner’s housing insecurity or change in housing that does not allow pets, death of an owner, owner’s health, divorce, caring for an ill family member, need to work a second job so not enough time at home, accidentally had a litter and don’t have space for 7 puppies, the list is truly endless. C’mon, there is no need to paint all shelter dogs with the same brush.

It’s not my belief that there are a huge number of reasons outside of behavior that animals end up at an animal shelter, it’s fact. I completely agree with you that dogs with behavior problems are more likely to be surrendered to a shelter than dogs without behavior problems, that doesn’t disprove my point. Most animals are not in a shelter due to behavior, most of them are strays. Check ASPCA - about twice as many animals enter shelters as strays compared to owner relinquishment. Even if EVERY owner surrender was due to behavior, which isn’t the case, that would still be a maximum of 1/3 of shelter animals surrendered due to behavior. It’s fine if you don’t want to adopt from shelters but don’t try to act like it’s because every shelter pet is a behavioral nightmare.
