John Stockton lived near a family friend of mine. He kept low because he was a, at least in Utah, famous basketball player. Karl Malone also lived relatively close. These weren't super high end homes they just were down to earth nice guys living in a random neighborhood blending in with the locals!

How would a "comprehensive background check" actually stop anything? What would be checked? How would it be checked and who would check it? A comprehensive background check does nothing if the person being checked hasn't done anything wrong. If they are an upstanding citizen and have never committed a crime how will that solve anything?

Or are you saying we should also do "psychiatric checks" to make sure people are mentally "stable", but I ask the same questions above on this - who would be doing these evaluations and who would be setting the standards and how would you enforce these so that they aren't abused on both ends - i.e. anti-gun psychiatrists denying permits based on their personal views and vice versa.

Or are you saying we should actually enforce the laws that are written on the books but the extreme pro-gun people try and circumvent? In Utah if you want to purchase a gun at a gun show there's no "waiting period" because the background check is instant. They call it in right then and there and get your complete BCI - the whole waiting period thing is horse shit if they have your social they can pull up your BCI report within a few minutes.

I ask you this, what would a gun registration actually do? How would the government knowing that you have XXX weapon do anything? See'ing as how they already know you have it since there was a BCI hit on you for a firearm purchase and a Bill of Sale.

What would requiring a BCI on private firearms sales do and how would it be enforced?

I really have to agree with this. These are the kind of people who give no fucks about anything besides their bottom dollar. We idolize these fools in magazines weekly saying how they're "successful" and bring a service to the community. What they bring is getting paid 330k a year and pay their lifeguards minimum wage and fire them when the first inkling of trouble for their purse pops-up.

lets see how honest you actually are when it comes to real facts about guns because this is why the pro-gun crowd REFUSES to give ground to democrats when it comes to firearm legislation.

I have two questions for you:

1) Legal definition of "Assault Weapon"

2) Legal definition of "Assault Rifle"

Lets see how honest you want to be here. You don't get to pull excuses like "oh the NRA has made it so we can't classify a new style of weapon" that's straight up bullshit, here's a handy little link that includes all the different styles of actions in firearms.)

You want to talk about "significant change" lets talk about actually enforcing the laws we already have on the books.

Here you have a congressional candidate illegally modifying a rifle and creating an SBR - Short Barrel Rifle - without the proper license in place. Should we just let her go because she turned it in, only after finding out it was HIGHLY illegal to do what she did, or convict her for illegally modifying a firearm under the NFA? This is where the rubber will meet the road when it comes to getting gun owners to even listen to democrats anymore, you want to enact all these new fancy feel good laws but are completely and totally unwilling to enforce the laws we already have written.

Now lets get into "assault weapons". First off, if you were honest about the questions above you'll by now realize that there's no such thing as an "assault weapon" but an "assault rifle" is a very real gun but here's the thing, they've been used in three, yes three, murders since 1934. source

Here's a handy little chart from the FBI showing what weapons are used in crimes. Notice how rifles account for 257 deaths whereas handguns are at 6447, that's quite the difference. Here's a nice little chart from Chicago breaking down all the calibers that are used in crimes in Chicago in a given year, notice all the pistol cartridges? Now to be fully honest, you can actually fire all of those rounds out of rifles, but when you look at the weapons that are seized from Chicago they're 90% handguns.

If you want gun owners to listen to what Democrats have to say about guns then you have to be honest about them, you can't keep using bullshit terms like "assault weapon" "assault gun" "military style assault weapons" etc etc.

Lets try another honesty task: Pick the Assault Rifle - not assault weapon since that's a made up term.

I have saved the link to every single one of those and lets see if you can identify the actual assault rifle. This is an honesty exercise, no google reverse image search.

Sorry dude, but you're falling to the idiot democrats line of thinking when it comes to guns. Utah has a LOT of gun owners and we know our shit, you pushing this bullshit of "Assault Weapons Bans" will get you nowhere in this state where we actually know wtf we're talking about when it comes to guns.

The simple fact you use "Assault Weapon" will raise a red flag to most people in the state and you pulling these same bullshit talking points w/o any proof to backup your claims will get you clobbered.

I have a feeling I know someone on your "campaign" and she basically embodies everything that is wrong with the modern democrat movement in Utah. You play to the identity politics, you play to the mainstream bullshit on guns, you play to the whole $15 minimum wage, which has gone over spectacularly for Seattle.

Sorry dude, but with these policies in Utah, you're gonna get fucked. It's not because we "don't want change" but because you peddle the same mainstream democrat policies that Utah has rejected pretty handily. People really saw what Democrats as a whole represent in Utah after Mia Love was elected and saw the bullshit that was thrown at her because she's a black woman that's a Republican.
