I'm a new mutation with EDS Type III as well! Go mutants!

Don't let the fear of passing it on stop you from having biological children. I, too, used to feel the same way, because there's a 50% chance of passing it on to each child if the father isn't a carrier. Then I thought about it like this: would I prefer to be alive and have EDS, or not exist at all? I didn't want to not have children on just the chance of them having my condition. I just had my second child two months ago. :-)

That said, adoption is awesome too!

Just be happy.

I was misdiagnosed with a slew of conditions before I was properly diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Type III Hypermobility. I'm curious, did you have the same problem with being misdiagnosed? Also, when did you start to develop symptoms and hyper flexibility?

I completely understand. I dislocate things at the drop of a hat, and I was certain I would dislocate or at least sublocate during birth, but somehow I didn't and had two amazing deliveries.

I had to see a high risk pregnancy specialist during both pregnancies because with EDS there is a concern of "incompetent cervix" (lovely name, right?). Basically, with the lax connective tissue that comes with EDS, there's the risk that the cervix could suddenly let go, open up, and release the baby prematurely. If it's detected early enough, the doctor will do a purse string suture, which is exactly what it sounds like, and keep that sucker closed. Bleh! Thankfully, my cervix was quite competent, thank you very much, so I never had to deal with that.

Your cat is a cutie! What's his name?

Also, I just looked at your recent surgery picture. I'm surprised that they opened you up that much. I had patellar realignment done on both knees when I was your age (14 years ago), and I have 5 short laproscopic scars on each knee. Did you get a choice on how they conducted the surgery?

To be fair, scooters are pretty scary to me too. :-D

You are very welcome! I'm happy to help. If you ever have any questions about it, don't hesitate to ask. Best of luck to you and Lewis!
