People with old accounts with lots of karma and varied post histories are offered money for them. There are agencies that will guarantee you hit the front page of Reddit for surprisingly low amounts of money. Some posts you walk into, especially sociopolitical ones, are full of people in the same room/slack group that are faking a conversation just so you overhear it. Being subbed to certain groups will get all your posts argued with and downvoted, just to frustrate and discredit you.

The real monopoly exists in the fact that I can't, no matter how much investor backing I get, start my own internet communications grid in my area and compete with Spectrum(the only option). The reason for this is that they have a government license. No license = Actual open access. That one thing is why we have either Spectrum or nothing.
